Civil War Style Church Service

Ongoing Opportunities

  • Sunday, October 13 at 1:00 PM

Join Historic Rocky Springs Chapel, Inc. (HRSC) for a Civil War-style, nondenominational church service at Historic Rocky Springs Chapel on Sunday, October 13, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The service will be conducted by Chaplain Edward “Scott” Sturdivant of Longstreet's Corps (a nonprofit Civil War living history organization) and a member of the nonprofit organization Re-enactor’s Missions for Jesus Christ (RMJC Inc.), who will preach wearing Civil War period attire and lead worshipers in singing hymns that were popular during the American Civil War. A short living history program will follow the service.

RMJC’s members, who serve as chaplains and colporteurs, and portray United States Christian Commission Delegates are sent into the field as men and women of God, solidly committed to preaching, teaching and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the winning of souls among the ranks of Civil War re-enactors and enthusiasts across the United States. HRSC is dedicated to using living history programs to accurately educate the public on historical Christian practices and the impact of faith on American society during the Civil War.

The wearing of Civil War period attire to the church service is encouraged (but not required). Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information call or email HRSC Trustees Kirk Callison or HRSC Trustee and Vice President Maria Callison at (301) 874-4737 or kmcallison@verison.net.
