Treasures of State: Maryland's Art Collection

This collaborative exhibition, co-organized with the Maryland State Archives, features over 90 American and European paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and decorative arts from 1750 to present. Treasures of State includes works of art from the collections of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and the State of Maryland, exploring their connections and broadening narratives about American identity, history, taste, and the evolution of each collection. Notable artists represented include the Peales, Jasper Cropsey, Thomas Wilmer Dewing, George Inness, Hugh Bolton Jones, Eastman Johnson, Giuseppe Ceracchi, and Giovanni Battista Piranesi.

Treasures of State has been organized by the Maryland Commission on Artistic Property, Maryland State Archives in collaboration with the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition has been collaboratively curated by Dr. Daniel Fulco, Christopher J. Kintzel, and Catherine Rogers Arthur. This exhibition has been made possible with the support of The John R.
