This 1.5 hour, 1-mile hike, follows the journey of freedom for those who were enslaved on the farms that make up Monocacy National Battlefield. Hear the stories of finding freedom through escape, court rulings, and ultimately the 1864 state constitution that ended slavery in Maryland. This hike will also pass Monocacy Junction where a US Colored Troops station was located. Learn about those who gained their freedom through enlisting in the army and fighting for the freedom of others. Hiking shoes, sun and/or bug protection, as well as drinking water are recommended for this program.
