On Saturday July 16th at 2:00 PM at the Pry House Field Hospital Museum Barn, Historian and Brigades of Antietam contributor Thomas Clemens will present Phelps’ Brigade during our “Brigades of Antietam” speaker series sponsored by the Antietam Institute. Clemens will discuss where the brigade fought, its commander, what constituted the unit, and how it performed in the campaign including the casualties sustained.
After earning a doctorate from George Mason University, where he studied under Dr. Joseph L. Harsh, Thomas G. Clemens taught for years at Hagerstown Community College, retiring as Professor Emeritus. He edited and annotated Ezra A. Carman’s narrative of the Maryland Campaign of September 1862, which has received several awards. Tom is the founding member and current president of Save Historic Antietam Foundation Inc., a non-profit battlefield preservation organization, and an Antietam Battlefield Guide.
