Sharpsburg Founder’s Day Celebration- O.T. Reilly: Sharpsburg Relics and Remembrances

  • July 7 at 4 PM

As part of the Sharpsburg Founder's Day Celebration, Stephen J. Recker, a collector of rare Antietam photographs and relics will present a talk on “O.T. Reilly: Sharpsburg Relics and Remembrances.” The talk is about the life of Oliver T. Reilly, who witnessed the Battle of Sharpsburg at age five, and became the first Antietam Battlefield guide at age 15. In the 1890’s, Reilly opened his War View and Relics Shop in Sharpsburg. He published picture postcards and a guide book of the battle. It is this unique trove of historic remembrances that is the basis for Stephen Recker's upcoming book on Reilly, and for his talk. Recker is a leading expert on Reilly, and will bring rare O.T. Reilly relics for the group to enjoy.
