Hidden History: Slavery at Monocacy

Ongoing Opportunities

  • September 19 at 1 PM

This ranger series will explore the complex and controversial story of slavery in Maryland. This series will take place at the Best Farm, Tour Stop #1. The voices of the enslaved are woven into the fabric of the history of the land now known as Monocacy National Battlefield. From the late 19th century when upwards of 90 men and women were enslaved on the French/Caribbean plantation known as L'Hermitage, to the Civil War, where the enslaved took shelter during the battle, their story is one of survival, defiance of tyranny, and emancipation.
