Sewing for Soldiers: Quilting on the Home Front

Ongoing Opportunities

  • March 28 at 1 PM

Explore the Civil War story of quilting with park rangers and volunteers, and try your hand at sewing a quilt square! During the Civil War, women supported the war effort through sewing and knitting. Quilts were an effective way to recycle materials during war time shortages and could be sent to a loved one in the field or donated to the US Sanitary Commission. Materials and instruction will be provided. Seating is limited; reservations are required. Registration begins March 1, 2020. To register contact Ranger Jana or Ranger Tracy at 301-662-3515 or email: mono_mail@nps.gov.
