The full museum is open, its usual hours from 11am-5pm at the usual admittance rates. From 5pm until 9pm the museum's first floor galleries are open to the public for free.

He will cover the causes and cures of Mid-Victorian diseases, the unique ballistics of the Civil War, the wounds they created, and the medical care created to relieve the suffering. 7-8:30pm

The 147th anniversary of the “Battle That Saved Washington” will be commemorated on July 9-10. A living history encampment at the historic Gambrill Farm will feature artillery demonstrations as well as commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with programs depicting soldiers in a new unit, a debate on the question of Maryland succession, open archeological site, and book signings. The park visitor center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Trails are open until dusk. For more information, visit the park website at www.nps.gov/mono or call 301-662-3515. The second lecture of the annual Summer Evening Lecture Series features John Reid of Manassas National Battlefield Park. First Battle of Manassas is notable as the first major land battle of the American Civil War. The battle resulted in a Confederate victory that stunned the Union and dashed expectations of a short and easy war. Mr. Reid will touch on the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the battle which will be the most prominent 2011 event of the Virginia Civil War Sesquicentennial. 7-9pm
