The National Museum of Civil War Medicine participates as one of about 80 shops, galleries and historic venues, celebrating our downtown historic district. The full museum is open, its usual hours from 11am-5pm at the usual admittance rates. From 5pm until 9pm the museum's first floor galleries are open to the public for free.

Two seatings: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets: $25 per person. Menu includes 2 kinds of tea, sandwiches, fresh fruit, soup, chocolate treats, and cranberry orange scones. There will be a costumed storyteller and each table will feature pictures/ stories of a New Windsor lady involved in the Civil War.

Was the white South’s decision to secede an inevitable one because of their commitment to honor? Drawing on examples from popular culture, Peter Carmichael, Fluhrer Professor of Civil War History and director of the Civil War Institute will explore how honor shaped the perceptions and behavior of southerners in the wake of Lincoln’s election. The annual P. Newman Lecture honors the contributions of the late Parsons Newman and is made possible by the Parsons Newman Fund at the Community Foundation of Frederick County. Free and open to the public. 7pm
